Motor Gliders: Ultralight Motorized Hand Gliders For Sale And Motor Glider Training

Is it possible for someone to pilot a plane at the age of 14? Most people probably wouldn't get onto a 747 knowing that their pilot was a 14-year-old boy amidst a struggle with puberty, but that isn't the case with motor gliders. Motor gliders can be piloted by anyone who completes the necessary training, and a person can begin flying such an aircraft solo at the age of 14.
Once a person learns how to operate it correctly, flying motor gliders is just like playing with big airborne toys.
Motor gliders are not airplanes, although they share some of the same basic characteristics. For example, motor gliders are aircraft that have an engine, landing gears, and a propeller. Also, the pilot controls the craft's flight pattern from the cockpit. However, motor gliders are easy and quick to build, and even quicker to get into the air. Being much smaller than a regular plane, motor gliders usually only have seating for one person, the pilot.
Before a person can jump in the cockpit and sail across the sky, they are required to complete motor glider training. Motor glider training is relatively simple and doesn't take long to finish either. Depending on the facility, training usually entails a short familiarization flight accompanied by an instructor and reading material. Most places also use motor gliders specially designed for training purposes especially with someone who is learning to fly motor gliders for the first time. The Eastern Cincinnati Aviation organization allows trainees to earn their private pilot certificate at the age of 16 after completing the motor glider training at their facility. The price of flight isn't always cheap though. To earn a Private pilot glider certificate at the ECA from scratch costs around $3300. Once training is complete, the next step is purchasing a motor glider.
There are motor gliders for sale, a person just has to know where to look. A good start would be The Glider Forum, which is a website where users who are interested in buying or selling motor gliders can posts messages available to be read by others in the motor glider community. A person who is interested in purchasing a motor glider can simply go to the site and direct themselves to a list of potential motor gliders for sale. They can talk back and forth with a seller on a message board to get the information they need to determine if the glider for sale is what they are looking for. The forum's website is gliderforum.com.
For someone looking for the power of flight but on a smaller level, there is the option of a motorized hand glider. The best place to look for such aircraft would be the Polaris Motor SRL's website. Polaris Motor SRL is the first Italian company to produce hand gliders and other such products. Even though such a device sounds like a fun toy, they also serve other purposes.
The Kairos Company, which is a 36-meter research vessel, specializes in oceanographic expeditions. Kairos uses the motorized hand glider, or as they call it the microlite, for exploring the open sea. Configured onto a FIB (Flying Inflatable Boat), the glider is used to seek out whales, rays, and sharks. The FIB typically flies and captures photographs at somewhere between 400 and 500 feet. The microlite is just one of many names for such an instrument.
Another name for it is the ultralight. An ultralight is basically just a small aeroplane that has different restrictions to it based on the country in which it is being used. In the United States, the ultralight is a single seat vehicle that can hold no more than 5 gallons of fuel and carry a weight capacity of around 254 pounds. The aircraft is restricted to a maximum speed of 55 knots.
For anyone who has ever dreamed of soaring across the sky as the pilot of their own aircraft, this is the type of person that motor gliders were made for. Since learning to fly motor gliders is so simple, it's shocking that people would settle for sitting in coach between overweight people and screaming youngsters for long, boring flights. Especially when they could easily have the opportunity to fly when they want and where they want, with their hands at the controls. This is exactly where motor gliders come into the picture.
